Xingu
” I walked through the open stretch of the Aldeia, and looked at a grieving circle of the Yawalapiti tribe, close to were their venerated big Chief, Pirakuman, was buried. They were sitting around an open ceramic pan, on a fireplace. I noticed what seemed to be popcorn bits, popping around. One of the bits stopped popping in the pan, and everybody broke out crying in grief. Later on I understood, that this was Pirakuman’s sliced off fingertip, popping towards the wind direction, from which Aldeia came the wizard, that had ambushed and slain Pirakuman. The extent of the realization dropped on me, and made the hair in my neck stand up. ”

This project was quite an initiation, my own little heart of darkness… I was immersed by the enchanting appeal of the magical world view. I made a trade, to teach Pirakuman’s, -great indigenous leader- grandson Thay, son of Ana Terra. I was to visits the various Kuarups, immersive rituals where everything comes together. Pirakuman and his brother Aritana were 2 larger than life figures, bringing me back to the lore of Swarga and Valhalla, and these realms. An other age before the humble present of Christ who died on the cross.. I got to know a world, where magic and shapeshifting exist, a world of psychic warfare, and impressing wrestling skills on the 3d plane.. I came to understand that reality is defined by the dominant paradigm, and that always all positions of good and bad in dualism, have to be occupied. If one wizard is vanquished, an other spawns right in that moment. The whole experience connected with a deep, archaic knowing, throbbing in my body where my ancestors are located, reminding of a reality that is much more vibrant and intense then the mundane world. In gratitude for the whole experience, we named our oldest son Thay as well…
